GREY MATTERS is a collection of recent paintings which were inspired by Janet Jennings' love of landscape and her fascination with the color grey and its optical effects on pure color.
The exhibition, which opens on September 26th and runs through October 18th, will include new color study paintings which draw from the lessons of Josef Albers, Ellsworth Kelly and Johannes Itten. While representational, these new works edge towards the abstract, creating a formal, yet playful contrast to Jennings' landscape paintings, which have multi-valued greys, infused with bursts of color.
"While my work is inspired from nature, I work entirely from memory. I try to access the memory of the experience, allowing the non-essentials to fall away leaving only what is necessary to complete the painting."
Be sure to join Janet at her opening reception on Saturday, September 26, from 6 - 9 PM at the Chase Edwards Gallery in Bridgehampton.
